The Saxon Music Association (SMB) is an association for the promotion of contemporary music in Saxony . The seat is the House of the Book in Leipzig.

history

The association was founded in 1990 by Günter Neubert and Wilfried Krätzschmar in Leipzig . In 1991 the regional association of the German Composers' Association emerged from it.

Numerous concerts were initiated under her leadership . Well-known ensembles for new music such as the Leipzig Consort , the Ensemble Avantgarde from Leipzig, the Ensemble Sortisatio from Leipzig, the Ensemble recherche from Freiburg, the Ensemble United Berlin , the Trio Basso from Cologne, the Chamber Ensemble New Music Berlin , the Musica -Viva-Ensemble Dresden , the Stadler Quartet from Salzburg, the Ensemble Konfrontation from Halle and the Czech Nonet from Prague.

In 1998 it was registered as a non-profit organization . Public relations work, exchange programs and workshop events as well as performances and productions of contemporary music were set as goals.

The projects are financially supported by the German Music Council , the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig, the Office for Culture and Monument Protection of the City of Dresden, the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony , the Paul Woitschach Foundation and the Sparkasse Leipzig . Further cooperation exists with the Rahn schools and the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk .

The acting chairman of the association is the composer Christian FP Kram . During his tenure, the association hosted several concerts in Chemnitz , Dresden and Leipzig.

Members of the association include Christfried Brödel , Christoph Sramek , Thomas Buchholz , Peter Herrmann , Thomas Christoph Heyde , Jörn Peter Hiekel , Alexander Keuk , Wilfried Krätzschmar , Volkmar Leimert , Siegfried Thiele , Karl Ottomar Treibmann and Manfred Weiss .

The Saxon Music Association is a member of the Dresden Sound Network .

Sponsorship award

Since 1995, the Musikbund, together with the City of Leipzig, has been awarding support for young composers and musicologists every two years . The sponsorship award is donated from the estate of the Leipzig composer and violinist Fred Malige . Previous winners include a. Benjamin Schweitzer (1999) and Michael Flade (2001).
