The Ensemble Sortisatio is a German ensemble for contemporary music . It plays in the line-up of Walter Klingner ( oboe and English horn ), Axel Andrae ( bassoon ), Matthias Sannemüller ( viola ) and Thomas Blumenthal ( guitar ).

history

Ensemble Sortisatio was founded in 1992 on the initiative of violist Matthias Sannemüller in Leipzig . The name of the ensemble was chosen based on the music-theoretical term sortisatio , as the combination of instruments can also be viewed as coincidental or unusual. The musicians were encouraged to do this by the composer Reiner Bredemeyer .

In 1996 the ensemble made its debut at the 9th Festival Zeit für Neue Musik under the artistic direction of Helmut Bieler with performances in the Steingraeber house of the Steingraeber & Sons piano factory in Bayreuth . It followed u. a. Appearances in Bitterfeld , Rotta and Weimar. The ensemble played at the Leipzig Town Hall Concerts, at concerts by the Saxon Music Association , at the MDR Music Summer , in the Gunzenhauser Museum , the St. Ulrich Church in Halle, the New Residence Hall, in the Salzburg Baroque Museum , in the Winterthur Art Museum and in Hindemith -Music center .

The ensemble took part regularly at the Hallische Musiktage and at concerts of the Forum Zeitgenössischer Musik Leipzig . At the invitation of Chan Wing-wah and the Hong Kong Composers' Guild , the ensemble attended Musicarama 2009 and performed in the Hong Kong City Hall theater .

The ensemble works with artists and conductors such as Christian Sprenger , Gerd Domhardt , Thomas Buchholz , Irmela Boßler , David Petersen ,

The repertoire ranges from compositions of classical modernism to works of new music . The ensemble has premiered numerous works by important composers, over 100 works have been dedicated to them.

Several CDs were produced : The CD 8 Pieces on Paul Klee was recorded as part of the “Klee Project” in collaboration with the composer group Groupe Lacroix . The ensemble then gave concerts in Switzerland and Liechtenstein , among others at the Kunstmuseum Bern , the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein in Vaduz and the French Church Bern and as part of the Musica Aperta concert series at the Kunstmuseum Winterthur and as part of cooperative readings with Alexander Klee , the painter's grandson Paul Klee .

The CD A Portrait with the participation of the Sortisatio ensemble was created in cooperation with, among others, the MDR Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Fabio Luisi .

Concerts were also broadcast on the radio ( Österreich1 , RTHK Radio 4, MDR Figaro , SRG SSR idée suisse ).

World premieres (selection)

The ensemble took on the following world premieres: Lethal Injection by Helmut Oehring , Stockend Fließend by Steffen Schleiermacher , works by the Saxon composers Volkmar Leimert , Thomas Stöß and Manfred Weiss ... ulaume ... by Wolf-Günter Leidel and Apparationen VI by Thomas Christoph Heyde , changing, interwoven, at times relaxed I by Michael Flade and Danse oubliee by Thomas Böttger .

At the concert in the Theater of the Hong Kong City Hall were Hui Cheung-wai raft , Stephen Yip's Reflection on Klee's Ancient Sound , Pang Chun-tings When a Golden Fish is morphing into squares and Ada Lai Vibrissae premiered.

In 2008, Ensemble Sortisatio participated in the world premieres of Max E. Keller's Wie Kraut und Rüben , Nils Günther's Alter Klang , Andor Losonczy's Limits of Understanding , Jean-Luc Darbellay's Bach for viola , Hans Eugen Frischknecht's Klee Impressions , Andrés Maupoint's Katz and Vogel and Chan Wing-wahs Oriental Garden at the L'art pour l'Aar festival .
