A Portrait is an album by the Swiss composer Jean-Luc Darbellay . It was created in collaboration with the MDR Symphony Orchestra under the musical direction of Fabio Luisi , the Leipzig Horn Quartet , the Leipzig Percussion Ensemble and the Sortisatio Ensemble as well as the MDR Radio Choir under Michael Gläser . In addition, Andreas Hartmann (violin) and Matthias Sannemüller (viola) appeared as instrumental soloists and Julie Kaufmann (soprano), Iris Vermillion (alto), Christoph Genz (tenor) and Markus Marquardt (baritone) as vocal soloists. The double CD was released in 2009 by Claves Records .

Oyama
Oyama for large orchestra was commissioned by Radio Suisse Romande / Espace 2 in 2000 . It was premiered in 2000 by the Orchester de la Suisse Romande under the direction of Fabio Luisi in Geneva and broadcast live by Télévision Suisse Romande . In Germany it was performed by the MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig's Gewandhaus and broadcasted by France Musique . It was also heard at the Tribune internationale des compositeurs and at several World Music Days of the International Society for New Music . -
Azur
Azur (2001) for horn quartet was commissioned for the 50th anniversary of the Leipzig horn quartet, founded in 1951. It was premiered in 2001 in Leipzig. The Dauprat Horn Quartet recorded it on the CD Swiss Horn Quartets ( Musiques Suisses , 2007). -
Shadows
Shadows (1998/99) for 5 percussionists refers to Pierre Boulez ' Mémoriale . It was premiered in 2003 by the Leipzig Drum Ensemble in Bern and performed by the Kroumata Ensemble during the World Music Days in Sweden in 2009 . -
As it were
, so to speak (1997) for oboe / English horn , bassoon , viola and guitar is by the painter Paul Klee inspired work. The picture of the same name consists of 17 miniatures. So to speak , it was performed for the first time at the MDR Music Summer in the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig. In addition, the work has already been recorded on the CDs 8 Pieces on Paul Klee ( Creative Works Records , 2003) and Ensemble Sortisatio ( Querstand , 2004) and performed at the Musicarama in Hong Kong. -
Chant d'adieux
Chant d'adieux (2001) for violin and viola. The work was originally performed in 1999 in a version for clarinet and basset horn in Eisenach. In 2008 the new version was then premiered at the L'art pour l'Aar festival in Switzerland. -
a quattro
A quattro (2001) for four horns and orchestra was premiered in Leipzig in 2002. It is reminiscent of Robert Schumann's concert piece. -
Requiem
Requiem (2005) for solos, choir and orchestra consists of verses from the Latin liturgy . In 2005 it was premiered in the Leipzig Gewandhaus by the MDR Symphony Orchestra under Fabio Luisi and the MDR Radio Choir. MDR Figaro recorded the performance.
