Thomas Christoph Heyde

Thomas Christoph Heyde (born November 12, 1973 in Leipzig ) is a German composer , media artist and curator . He is chairman of the Forum for Contemporary Music Leipzig .

Life

Thomas Christoph Heyde was born in 1973 as the son of a pastor in Leipzig. From the age of seven he was trained on the piano and later received private composition lessons from Lorenz Stolzenbach . Without a high school diploma, he first completed a pharmaceutical training and worked as a nurse in a Leipzig hospital. In 1994 he took a special test to study composition with Peter Herrmann and electroacoustic music with Eckhard Rödger at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . Thanks to two scholarships, he studied from 1997 to 1999 as a master class student for composition with Friedrich Schenker at the Berlin Academy of the Arts and with Thomas Kesseler at the Electronic Studio of the Music Academy of the City of Basel .

From 1998 to 2006 he taught media art at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig , where he was head of the electronic studio. From 2001 to 2002 he was the organizer of the concert series Sende (r) musik of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR). He was the curator of several projects a. a. Interferences from the Beck & Eggeling Gallery , Düsseldorf (1998), the Spinnerei Festival for contemporary music, Leipzig / Dresden (1999–2001), the Musik-Zeit-Herbstfestival , Leipzig (2001), the Matrix-Herbstfestival für Klangende Kunst, Leipzig (2003), the Grenzregionen-Festival for Eastern European Music, Leipzig (2004), the project ost.usw , Leipzig (2003) and the art festival electric renaissance , Halle (2005). Since 2003 he has been artistic director of the Forum for Contemporary Music Leipzig (FZML). He organized u. a. the international art and music project Cage100 (2012/13) and the transmediale project ABENDMAHL - "decreasing horror | increasing love". In the winter semester 2012/13 he was a lecturer on the subject of John Cage and in the winter semester 2016/17 on the subject of musical concepts after 1945 at the Institute for Musicology at the University of Leipzig .

He mainly writes orchestral and chamber music . His compositions have already been broadcast on Deutschlandradio , Deutschlandfunk , MDR, BR , WDR and on Swiss radio. He is particularly interested in live electronics and video art . So he worked with Ulrich Polster . The resulting art videos were shown in museums in France and Great Britain.

He has two children with the linguistics professor Tatjana Zybatow ( University of Flensburg ). He is married to the psychologist and therapist Ina Habt.

Heyde is chairman of the board of the Mosaik Leipzig eV The facility operates u. a. a migration counseling service and a psychosocial center for refugees.

Audio language

The music journalist Dirk Wieschollek described Heyde as: "Socialized with« classical »,« new music »and« techno »equally”. In the radio section of Deutschlandradio Kultur it was said: “He wants to inspire people for new music who have little contact with high culture.
