Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art is a gallery for art of the 20th and 21st centuries in Düsseldorf . It emerged from the Michael Beck Gallery in Leipzig, which was founded in 1994 . In 1996 the name was changed and in 1998 the gallery moved to Düsseldorf.

The founders

Michael Beck, son of the artist couple Gisela and Herbert Beck , completed an apprenticeship as an art dealer in the Utermann Gallery in Dortmund after graduating from high school, and then studied art history in London. Ute Eggeling studied art history and presented the catalog raisonné on Hans Thuar with her doctorate . At the same time she worked in the Utermann Gallery in Dortmund.

Gallery work

Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art specializes in modern art and German expressionism . In the gallery exhibitions were shown with works by Paul Klee and August Macke , among others , with accompanying catalog books. The ZERO time and its artists are also focal points . In the field of contemporary art, the gallery primarily represents figurative positions, such as Heribert C. Ottersbach , Susanne Kühn , Thomas Wrede . International artists include Magdalena Abakanowicz , Aljoscha , Manuel Valdés, Fausto Melotti. or Aspassio Haronitaki. In 2010 the Handelsblatt described the exhibition "Konstruktiv" as one of the "best gallery exhibitions of the year". In cooperation with the Fondazione Giorgio Cini , Beck & Eggeling realized the monumental sculpture The Sky Over Nine Column by Heinz Mack at the Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice in November 2014 as part of the 14th Architecture Biennale . At Art Cologne 2015 they designed a “light room” with works by Mack from all creative phases. In 2016, the gallery of artist Chris Reinecke hosted a show on the occasion of her 80th birthday.

Art publisher

The art book publisher has existed since 1994 and initially belongs to the Galerie Michel Beck Leipzig; In 1996 it was renamed Beck & Eggeling Kunstverlag. The publications accompany the gallery program with text contributions by authors and art experts. Over 50 publications are recorded in the library of the Central Institute for Art History in Munich.
