history

In 1927 the art critic Walter Bondy founded the Berliner Wochenblatt Die Kunstauktion , which was renamed Weltkunst on September 28, 1930 by JI von Saxe . The topic was the German, but also international art market, which the regular English supplement also covered.

In 1934 Carl August Breuer took over the management of world art . As a result of the "synchronization of the art & antique trade and related industries" introduced by the National Socialists, he relocated to Paris, where he and his friends founded the publishing house "Edition Art et Technique" and published the magazine Beaux Arts du Monde .

The publication of the magazine did not cease until September 30, 1944 during World War II . The first edition of Weltkunst after the war was printed in 1949 after the Allies had granted a general license, and the place of publication was now Munich.

The magazine has belonged to Axel Springer Verlag since 1979, and in 2003 the publisher switched to investor Arques , who sold it on in 2005. Since then, it has appeared in Zeitverlag-Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co. KG, a 100 percent subsidiary of Zeitverlag in Hamburg, the owner of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . Zeitverlag-Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co. KG was renamed ZEIT Kunstverlag GmbH & Co. KG in December 2008. At the turn of the year 2011/2012, the publishing areas were relocated from Munich to Hamburg, and the editorial offices for world art and art and auctions have been in Berlin since then.

In 2015 the magazine published the art compass .
