The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law and administers the former family assets and inheritance of the Krupp family . It was founded by Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach . With his death on July 30, 1967, all of his assets were transferred to the foundation he had set up, which began operations on January 1, 1968. Berthold Beitz was chairman and executive member of the board of trustees until his death on July 30, 2013. Since October 1, 2013 it has been Ursula Gather .

Shares

The foundation is the largest single owner of a block of shares in ThyssenKrupp AG and has held 23.03% of the share capital since 2013. Since she has no longer had a blocking minority since the capital increase in 2013, she has only sent two seats to the Supervisory Board instead of the previous three.

The value of the block of shares is around € 1.1 billion (December 2016), with the ThyssenKrupp AG share price falling significantly in recent years. Nonetheless, the value is significant in that around two-thirds Thyssen contributed to the merger , and Krupp one-third . In January 2012, the foundation received proceeds of around € 59 million from dividend income from ThyssenKrupp shares alone. In 2016, the foundation was able to approve grants worth around € 17 million.

Funding projects

The foundation was established due to the renunciation of inheritance by the last direct member of Krupp, Arndt von Bohlen und Halbach . It has charitable goals in the areas of culture , sport and international understanding such as:

  • the reconciliation and understanding with the European East, especially with Russia
  • the promotion of sport and in particular the Olympic Games (Olympic Committee)
  • Art exhibitions and outstanding music events with classical music in the Villa Hügel .
  • Scholarship museum curators for photography since 1999. Endowment: 30,000 €.
