Hans Eugen Frischknecht

Hans Eugen Frischknecht (born May 8, 1939 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss composer , organist , choir director and harpsichordist .

Life

Hans Eugen Frischknecht graduated from the Swiss Music Education Association (SMPV) as a piano teacher after graduating from high school . From 1959 to 1962 he studied composition with Boris Blacher , counterpoint with Ernst Pepping , organ (final exam) with Michael Schneider and twelve-tone music with Josef Rufer at the Academic University of Music in Berlin. From 1962 to 1964 he continued his training with Olivier Messiaen (analysis courses), in organ with Gaston Litaize and in harpsichord with Robert Veyron-Lacroix at the Conservatoire de Paris . Until 1969 he studied music theory (teaching diploma) with Theo Hirsbrunner and Jörg Ewald Dähler at the Bern Conservatory .

As an organist and harpsichordist, he has given concerts in Europe and the USA. From 1964 to 2002 he was organist and choirmaster at the Evangelical Reformed Johanneskirche in Bern's Breitenrain district. In 1970 he founded and took over the management of the IGNM vocal soloists in Bern. He conducted a. a. 1980 the world premiere of Manfred Trojahn's madrigal . From 1983 to 2003 he taught improvisation and theory at the Bern University of the Arts in Biel.

From 1977 to 1988, Frischknecht was President of the Berne City Association of the International Society for New Music (IGNM). From 1978 to 1990 he was President of the local Swiss Music Education Association (SMPV) in Bern. He was also the longstanding President of the SMPV Presidents' Conference. In 2002/03 he was a founding member of the L'art pour l'Aar festival in Bern.

In addition to organ, piano and harpsichord pieces, he mainly composed chamber music and choral works. They were made in Europe and the United States, etc. a. performed by the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra and the Ensemble Sortisatio .

Frischknecht is married to the organist Eliane Kneuss and lives in Muri near Bern.
