Gerd Sannemüller

Gerd Sannemüller (born October 19, 1914 in Heiligenstadt / Eichsfeld , † June 13, 2008 in Kiel ) was a German composer , pianist and musicologist .

Life

Sannemüller passed his Abitur in Stralsund . He studied musicology with Arnold Schering and Georg Schünemann , history , philosophy and psychology at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and school music at the Berlin School of Music Education and Church Music . He passed the exam for the higher teaching post. He then worked as a study assessor and pianist in Berlin. In the Second World War he was committed to military service. He later studied musicology with Hans Albrecht , Friedrich Blume and Kurt Gudewill , history and psychology at the University of Kiel . He received his PhD in 1961 with the work of the piano works by Maurice Ravel to Dr. phil. in Kiel.

He was a lecturer at the University of Education in Flensburg and since 1962 at the University of Education in Kiel . From 1965 to 1983 he was Professor of Musicology and Music Didactics and Director of the Institute for Music and its Didactics in Kiel. He was interested in the composers Maurice Ravel , Paul Hindemith and Béla Bartók as well as the Polish New Music by Witold Lutosławski and Karol Szymanowski . He was in contact with the Austrian composer Gottfried von Eine . Sannemüller was editor of the singing and play music of the Hindemith Complete Edition and co-author of the Hindemith yearbooks of the Hindemith Institute . He was also an external author for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . His compositions are regularly performed in the Kiel Theater. His brother was the violinist Horst Sannemüller (1918–2001), whom he often accompanied on the piano.
