Christfried Brödel

Christfried Brödel (born December 17, 1947 in Elsterberg ) is a German church musician and university professor .

biography

Christfried Brödel comes from a Saxon rectory. At the age of fourteen he was already active as a representative organist. After graduating from high school, he studied mathematics at the University of Leipzig and at the same time became a member of the Leipzig University Choir . There he was choir assistant to Hans-Joachim Rotzsch from 1967 to 1971 . In 1969 he also became a member and prefect of the Meißner Kantorei in 1961 , a national choir that primarily performs contemporary music (former director: Erich Schmidt ).

In 1971 he finished his mathematics studies and obtained the academic degree of diploma mathematician. The university career he was striving for was denied for political reasons. From 1971 to 1984 Brödel worked as a mathematician at the Institute for Energy in Leipzig and at the Institute for Civil Engineering at the Building Academy of the GDR (department of soil mechanics). In 1982, he was with the work of a method for solving the first boundary value problem for nonlinear elliptic differential equations by region change his doctorate .

In 1981 Christfried Brödel took over the management of the Meißner Kantorei in 1961. In 1984 he switched to the church music service of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Saxony . After exams at the church music schools in Dresden and Halle, he was appointed to the state chancellor of the Saxon regional church and at the same time started teaching at the church music school in Dresden. In 1988 he was appointed director. From 1992 until his retirement in 2013 he was professor for choral conducting and rector of the Dresden University of Church Music . He has been a member of the board of directors of the New Bach Society since 1991 and was appointed chairman in March 2015. In 2002 he founded the Ensemble vocal modern , a professional vocal ensemble that primarily performs new music . In 2013 he became a full member of the Saxon Academy of the Arts .

Christfried Brödel has conducted numerous world premieres and concerts with the classical choral repertoire a cappella and oratorios, this with the Meißner Kantorei in 1961, with the choir of the Dresden University of Church Music and the ensemble vocal modern. He undertook concert tours as a conductor to many European countries, South Africa and the USA , and he also conducted CD and radio recordings. Brödel was the leader of numerous choral conducting courses as well as ten Bach academies on behalf of the New Bach Society in Romania and the Ukraine . Even in his retirement he continued to be musically active until 2017, for example, as head of the Meißner Kantorei in 1961 .
