Martin Petzoldt

Martin Petzoldt (born April 13, 1946 in Rabenstein near Chemnitz , † March 13, 2015 in Leipzig ) was a German theologian and Bach researcher.

Life

Petzoldt studied at the Kreuzschule and was a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor under Rudolf Mauersberger . He completed his theology studies at the University of Leipzig in 1969 with the state examination. This was followed by his doctorate in 1976 as a Dr. theol. and the habilitation 1985 in Leipzig .

In 1973 he became pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony . Since 1986 he has been a lecturer and in 1992 became professor for systematic theology with special emphasis on ethics at the theological faculty in Leipzig. From 1995 to 1998 he was Second University Preacher and from 1998 to 2009 First University Preacher. In this capacity he was involved in the controversial discussions and decisions about the new building of the Paulinum - auditorium and St. Pauli University Church . In 2011 he retired.

Petzoldt was co-editor of the Theologische Literaturzeitung until the end of 2014 . He was also chairman of the New Bach Society and from 1978 to 2014 a member of the church council of St. Thomas Church .

In 1998 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.

In 2012 he was diagnosed with leukemia , of which he died on March 13, 2015. His grave is in the Südfriedhof in Leipzig.
