Rudiger Lux

Rüdiger Lux (born March 25, 1947 in Jena , Thuringia ) is a German theologian and professor emeritus for Old Testament science at the University of Leipzig .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Eisenach in 1965 , Rüdiger Lux studied Protestant theology in Halle and Greifswald and passed his first theological exam in 1970. He then received a research grant from Ev.-Luth. Church in Thuringia . From 1972 to 1974 Rüdiger Lux was vicar of the Ev.-Luth. Church in Thuringia and Berlin-Brandenburg. He passed the second theological exam in 1974. While he worked as a pastor in Cottbus from 1974 to 1981 , Rüdiger Lux pursued his doctorate, which he obtained in 1977 in Leipzigwith the work “The Father's Promises. Literary, sociological and religious-historical studies on the promises of descendants and land ownership to the patriarchs in Israel ”.

After working as a student pastor in Halle from 1982 to 1985, he worked as a lecturer in Biblical Hebrew and Old Testament at the church college in Naumburg until 1993 , where he held the post of rector in 1989/90.

In 1990 he was appointed university professor, in 1992 his habilitation at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with a thesis entitled " Jonah - prophecy between refusal and obedience". After a visiting professorship at Bielefeld University in 1992/93, he was appointed professor at the Erfurt / Mühlhausen University of Education in 1993 and then at Leipzig University in 1995 . He gave his farewell lecture at the University of Leipzig on July 13, 2012 on The Image of God and the Images of Gods in the Old Testament .

In 1993 he and Almuth Berger lost to Wolfgang Huber when they were elected bishop of the then Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg .

From 2001 to 2007 Rüdiger Lux was honorary director of the Evangelical Research Academy of the Union of Evangelical Churches (UEK) and has been a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences since 2003 .

In 2011 he was awarded the ecumenical preaching prize for “Best Sermon”.
