The ensemble recherche is an eight-person soloist ensemble that primarily interprets works of contemporary music . You are u. a. Winner of the Rheingau Music Prize in 1997 and the Reinhold Schneider Prize of the City of Freiburg (2018).

It was founded in 1985 and is located in Freiburg im Breisgau . The repertoire focuses on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries and covers the spectrum from classical modernism through the Darmstadt school to contemporary music ; Occasionally, however, works from before 1700 are also interpreted from a contemporary perspective.

The ensemble is characterized by extensive concert activity; in Freiburg, its members organize their own series of concerts. In addition, they take part in film, radio and music theater projects, give instrumental and composer courses (in Freiburg, at the Darmstadt summer courses , at music academies) and organize public rehearsals. You have released over 50 CDs so far.

Together with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra , ensemble recherche organizes the annual Ensemble Academy Freiburg .

The ensemble currently consists of Melise Mellinger ( violin ), Paul Beckett ( viola ), Åsa Åkerberg ( violoncello ), Mario Caroli ( flute ), Eduardo Olloqui ( oboe ), Shizuyo Oka ( clarinet ), Christian Dierstein ( drums ) and Klaus Steffes- Dutchman ( piano ).

Since May 2012, the ensemble and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra have been based in the newly built Ensemble House with office and rehearsal rooms next to the old town hall and in the vicinity of the Freiburg University of Music .
