Schneider Schott Music Prize Mainz

The Schneider Schott Music Prize Mainz is an award for outstanding young composers and performers, which is given every two years.

According to the foundation statutes, it is awarded to composers, performers and music ensembles in the field of serious music who are resident in Germany and who are in need of support and who should not be older than 40 years. When selecting the winners, preference is given to achievements in the field of contemporary music.

history

The music publisher Heinz Schneider-Schott (1906–1988), managing director of the B. Schott's Söhne publishing house , donated a sum of money to the state capital of Mainz in 1985 for the long-term establishment of a music prize . From 1986 to 2006 the Schneider Schott Music Prize in Mainz was awarded annually, since 2006 every two years. It alternates with composers and performers who are committed to contemporary music . The selection is made by a five-person jury appointed by the cultural office of the state capital Mainz. The administration of the endowment and the prize money is up as the cultural office as the design of the ceremony and the winners concert - mostly in the State Theater in Mainz , in Mainz Town Hall , the Peter Cornelius Conservatory or the Mainz School of Music . The Schneider Schott Music Prize is endowed with 15,000 euros, making it one of the most highly endowed music prizes in Germany.
