Carolin Widmann

Carolin Widmann (* 1976 in Munich ) is a German violinist . She plays a violin made by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini in 1782.

Life

Carolin Widman received her training from Igor Ozim in Cologne, Michèle Auclair in Boston and David Takeno in London. As a soloist she worked with the conductors Sir Roger Norrington , Sylvain Cambreling , Heinz Holliger , Riccardo Chailly , Sir Simon Rattle , Wladimir Jurowski and Esa-Pekka Salonen as well as with the composers Pierre Boulez , Péter Eötvös , Erkki-Sven Tüür , Wolfgang Rihm and Salvatore Sciarrino and Rebecca Saunderstogether, many of which were written especially for them. Since October 2006 she has been professor for violin at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . She was involved in the world premiere of folded , a “choreographic concert” by Sasha Waltz and Mark Andre , with which the International Mozarteum Foundation opened its “Mozart Week 2012”. From the same year she took over the management of the Hitzacker Summer Music Days , Germany's oldest chamber music festival. She has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation since 2017 .

Carolin Widman is the sister of the composer and clarinetist Jörg Widmann .
