Thomas E. Bauer

Thomas E. Bauer ( Thomas Eduard Bauer ; born June 15, 1970 in Metten ) is a German baritone . His repertoire ranges from the Organa of the Notre Dame School to classical opera and contemporary music .

Live and act

Thomas E. Bauer grew up in Bernried and received his first musical training as a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen , from which he passed his Abitur in 1990. He then studied at the Munich University of Music and Theater and was a master class student of Hanno Blaschke and Siegfried Mauser .

In 1991 Bauer was a co-founder and then a long-term member of the vocal soloist ensemble Singer Pur .

Thomas E. Bauer made his debut as an opera singer in 1997 at the Munich Prinzregententheater under the direction of August Everding . He had other engagements as an opera singer at the Salzburg Festival , the Munich Biennale and the RuhrTriennale, among others . As an interpreter of contemporary music, he gave world premieres of works by Wolfgang Rihm , Luigi Nono and Salvatore Sciarrino .

Bauer gave concerts in the Gewandhaus Leipzig , the Wiener Konzerthaus , the Cité de la musique Paris, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Auditorium Chicago and the Philharmonics of Berlin and Cologne . He worked under conductors such as Markus Stenz , Steven Sloane , HK Gruber , Philippe Herreweghe , Jos van Immerseel and Iván Fischer .

A concert tour that Thomas E. Bauer undertook together with Siegfried Mauser through Russia, Mongolia and China in 2004 was documented by the filmmaker Klaus Voswinckel under the title Winterreise - Schubert in Siberia .

Thomas E. Bauer and his former piano partner Uta Hielscher made a recital debut in Kyoto in 2003 , for which they were awarded the Aoyama Music Award . They had other appearances at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the International Beethovenfest Bonn and the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg . In 2008 they founded the “Kulturwald Festival” together. They recorded several CDs.

The concert hall in Blaibach , suggested by Bauer , opened in 2014.

2015 he sang at La Scala the Stolzius in the opera The soldiers of Bernd Alois Zimmermann . From 2016 to 2018, Bauer was the artistic director of the Festival European Weeks in Passau .

At the beginning of 2020, Thomas E. Bauer, as director of the Blaibach concert hall, campaigned for an improved cultural policy.

Awards

Thomas E. Bauer has received cultural awards from the Bavarian State Government and the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. He has received prizes from the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris and the German Music Competition . In 2003 he was the first singer to receive the Schneider Schott Music Prize in Mainz . Thomas E. Bauer is a soloist in the ensemble “Das neue Orchester / Chorus Musicus Köln” by Christoph Spering , which was awarded the ECHO Klassik in 2011 .
