history

A large part of today's municipality belonged to the Hofmark Egg, the Egg Castle is located in the municipality. Since the municipality was founded in 1818, the municipality of Bernried has belonged to the district office and later the district of Bogen . With the dissolution of the district as part of the district reform of 1972, Bernried became part of the Deggendorf district as the only municipality in the Altlandkreis Bogen . At that time the municipality had 31 parts of the municipality and an area of ​​around 1517 hectares .

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent communities of Edenstetten and Egg were incorporated.

Population development

In 1840 the community had 2122 inhabitants, based on today's territorial status, at the 1970 census it was 3370 inhabitants. The highest number of inhabitants so far was 4925 in 2006. In the period from 1988 to 2018, the municipality grew from 4,129 to 4,744 by 615 inhabitants or 14.9%.

1st Mayor of Bernrieds has been Stefan Achatz (FWG) since May 2014, 2nd Mayor is Johanna Gegenfurtner (CSU) and 3rd Mayor is Wilhelm Haban (SPD).

In the local elections on March 15, 2020 , Achatz was re-elected with 93.3 percent in the first ballot with no opposing candidates.

Attractions

The damaged late Gothic church of St. Katharina was demolished in 1894 except for the choir. Then the current neo-Gothic, three-aisled pillar church with four bays and a 33 meter high tower was built. Consecration took place on June 8, 1895.
