history

Until the church is planted

Already in the Neolithic Age, arable farmers settled on the fertile loess soils of the Osterhofener Gäus and thus also in the area around Buchhofen. The earliest documentary evidence, however, dates from the 8th century: Around 741 the Agilolfinger Duke Odilo transferred 28 Mansen / Huben von Poohofa / Buchhofen and Muliheim / Mühlham to the newly founded Altaha / Altach / Niederaltaich monastery. Only a decade or two later, Duke Tassilo, the son of Odilo, also put puttingas / putting with its 4 farms on Niederaltaich. The Obermünster monastery in Regensburg received a stately estate in Otmarigen / Ottmaring around the middle of the 9th century. According to the land register / list of goods by Abbot Herman, written in the middle of the 13th century, Putting, most of the farms in Buchhofen, all of Niederottmaring / Nindorf, a large part of Oberottmaring and Maenndorf / Manndorf belong to the Niederaltaich monastery. The largest courtyards are managed by the cloister's officials: the Amann von Buchhofen and von Isarhofen. The latter was also responsible for Ottmaring. However, he moved to Niederottmaring in 1650 after his farm was burned at the end of the Thirty Years' War. The bailiff / treasurer of Obermünster sat in the chamber courtyard in Ottmaring. The farms of the Ammer in Buchhofen and Nindorf as well as the chamber farmer from Ottmaring still bear the old farm names today. The first nobles are mentioned in Ottmaring around the middle of the 12th century. The influential Schweicker von Ottmaring, who lent Duke Heinrich XIV 630 pounds of Regensburg pfennigs around 1335, is followed by the nobles von Resch. Then the barons of Starzhausen owned the Hofmark von Ottmaring from around 1530 to 1778. Around 1700 the famous Michael Wenig u. a. Ottmaring Castle also engraved in copper. From 1786 the palace and courtyard belong to the palace builder. In 1149 Pope Eugene III. the Niederaltaich monastery and the associated goods and churches, including the church of Buchhofen in its special protection. In 1682 Buchhofen was made an expositur and in 1895 a parish. In 1339 the knight Schweicker donated three weekly masses for the church in Ottmaring. The baroque furnishings were donated by Sebastian Ferdinand von Starzhausen, lord of the court of Ottmaring, and his brother Richard Wenzeslaus, canon of Passau, around 1740 to 1750.

20th and 21st centuries

In the course of the municipal reform in 1978, the municipality of Buchhofen was created from the previously independent municipalities of Buchhofen and Ottmaring. This is a member of the administrative community of Moos. As everywhere, the farmers of the Buchhofen community have experienced a profound structural change over the past 50 years: cows and horse stables are empty, servants' operations are a thing of the past and livestock-free, fully mechanized arable farming dominates the village. Far-sighted farmers reacted to this development very early on: as early as 1958, on the initiative of Geiersberger, they founded the world's first machine ring. The farm museum, which Johann Schreiner founded on his farm in Nindorf in 1981, impressively shows with its numerous exhibits this structural change from the manual labor stage with horse and ox harness to full mechanization. In Ottmaring, the village renewal was successfully completed in 2010 and in Buchhofen the land consolidation is so far advanced that the fields have already been redistributed.
