Croatina is a red grape variety that is widespread in Piedmont and Lombardy . At the end of the 1980s, around 4,500 hectares were still in production. It has been known since the 9th century.

It is cultivated in the following DOC regions of Italy with a total of 6 clones : Bramaterra , Cisterna d'Asti , Colline Novaresi , Coste della Sesia , Oltrepò Pavese , San Colombano al Lambro , Colli di Parma , Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa and Colli Piacentini .

It is late in budding and ripening (almost 30 days after the Gutedel ) and has an abundant but not constant yield. It is often blended with the Nebbiolo grape variety , but can also provide single-origin wine. Croatina is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
