Coste della Sesia

Coste della Sesia is an Italian wine-growing region in the province of Vercelli , Piedmont . On September 14, 1996, the region received the status of a Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC for short), which was updated on October 19, 2011.

Growing area

This region, which lies on the orographic right side of the Sesia River , includes the municipalities of Lessona , Masserano , Brusnengo , Curino , Villa del Bosco , Sostegno , Cossato , Mottalciata , Candelo , Quaregna , Cerreto Castello , Valdengo and Vigliano Biellese .

generation

  • Three types of blend wines are produced:
    • "Coste della Sesia rosso ": These wines are made from at least 50% of the Nebbiolo grape variety . The other 50% of the grapes must come from one of the red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Piedmont region, e.g. B. Bonarda , Vespolina , Barbera , Croatina .
    • "Coste della Sesia rosato ": These wines are made from at least 50% of the Nebbiolo grape variety . The other 50% of the grapes must come from one of the red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Piedmont region, e.g. B. Bonarda , Vespolina , Barbera , Croatina
    • “Coste della Sesia bianco ”: The white wine is made from 100% Erbaluce grapes.
  • The following wines with naming of the grape variety are produced:
    • "Coste della Sesia Nebbiolo " (or Spanna ): At least 85% of the red wine is made from the Nebbiolo grape variety (also called Spanna here ).
    • “Coste della Sesia Croatina ”: At least 85% of the red wine is made from Croatina grapes .
    • “Coste della Sesia Vespolina ”: At least 85% of the red wine is made from the Vespolina grape variety .
