history
Until the church is planted
Numerous archaeological investigations have made it known that today's Künzing has been inhabited for more than 5000 years. In the beginning of the 5th millennium BC (Neolithic Age) a small group of settlements built a so-called circular moat, which is now interpreted as a calendar construction. It is one of the most important sites of the Oberlauterbach group . From this time on, the traces of settlement do not tear off: In the Urnfield period from 1100 BC. This is documented by finds from a large burial ground that dates back to 500 BC. Was used.
From 90 AD, Künzing was the location of a border fort of the Roman Empire under the fort name Quintanis ( Quintana ) on the so-called Danube Limes. In 2003, the Deggendorf District Archeology also found traces of a wooden Roman amphitheater ( 48 ° 40 ′ 11 ″ N , 13 ° 4 ′ 49 ″ E ).
This fort had to be abandoned at the end of the 5th century because of the frequent raids by the Alemanni , and the military withdrew. Late antique grave finds prove that at least part of the Romanesque population remained on site. From the 6th century onwards, archaeological findings show that the place was settled by the Bavarians.
In 903 Künzing's affiliation with Niederaltaich Monastery was documented. Künzing later belonged to the Landshut Rent Office and the Vilshofen Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria.
