Hunding is a municipality in the Deggendorf district in Lower Bavaria . The place of the same name is both the main town and seat of the municipal administration and a state-approved resort .

geography

Hunding is located in the Danube Forest region in the southwestern Bavarian Forest , more precisely in the Lallinger Winkel . The municipality only includes the Hunding district and consists of the districts Hunding, Panholling, Zueding, Rohrstetten, Padling, Gneisting, Sondorf, Kieflitz and Birkenöd. Due to its protected location in the Lallinger Valley, Hunding is shielded on three sides by the mountain ranges of the Bavarian Forest and open to the Danube plain to the south.

history

Until the church is planted

The first place was founded in the Rohrstetten part of the municipality, which was laid out at the beginning of the 11th century as the "Gunthersteig", a trade route from Niederalteich to Rinchnach . In any case, Rohrstetten is the first documented location in the municipality. She is in one of Pope Eugene III. on March 30, 1148 for the Niederaltaich monastery mentioned. The village of Hunding was first mentioned in a document in 1251.

In 1304 the dukes Otto and Stephan of Bavaria donated the village of Huntorn with eight estates to the Niederaltaich monastery. Hunding belonged to the Straubing Rent Office and the Hengersberg Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria . The Niederaltaich monastery was the largest landlord until secularization in 1803. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 . From the 18th to the beginning of the 19th century, a lead mine was operated with interruptions near Hunding.

Fruit growing tradition

Due to the mild climate prevailing in Lallinger Winkel, Hunding developed into a center of fruit tree cultivation as early as the 8th century. To this day, a large number of rare, historical apple and pear varieties are cultivated here individually by small fruit growers, untreated on orchards , but also processed into juice and must. They are mostly sold through direct marketing or on the Hundinger apple market. The now nationally known event takes place annually on the first Sunday in October in the presence of political celebrities.
