history

Until the church is planted

In 1011 the Rinchnach Monastery was founded by St. Gunther , a Benedictine monk from Niederalteich Monastery , was the first settlement in the central Bavarian Forest. The history of the place is closely linked to that of the monastery. The locals call their place simply “monastery” instead of Rinchnach, in dialect “Klousta”.

Rinchnach was on Gunthersteig , a salt road that turned into Böhmweg before Zwiesel . Fires raged in 1597, 1693 and 1799. Rinchnach was destroyed and looted in the Thirty Years War in 1641 by the Swedes, in the Spanish War of Succession in 1703 by the Austrians and in 1742 to 1744 in the War of Austrian Succession by the Austrian troops of General Bärenklau and the Pandurs of Franz von der Trenck .

The place belonged to the Rentamt Straubing and the Regional Court of Regen of the Electorate of Bavaria . In 1803 the Rinchnach provost was abolished by secularization . In 1818 the community came into being.

Culture and sights

The Frauenbrünnl Church
  • The former monastery church and current parish church of St. John the Baptist was completely redesigned in 1727 by master builder Johann Michael Fischer . It is the only church in the area to have a dome and is one of the most important buildings in the Bavarian Forest.
  • In the forest about two kilometers east of Rinchnach is the side church of Maria Birth, also known as Frauenbrünnl or Guntherkircherl. It was built in 1766 on the site of a hermitage of St. Gunther and has a Gothic miraculous image. A small spring rises next to the church that gave it its name. In 1809, the parish of Gehmannsberg bought the church at auction, and in 1958 it passed to the parish of Rinchnach. It is looked after by a development association founded in 1995. The rich frescoes from the time it was built, presumably by Franz Anton Rauscher , was removed after the Second World War and brought back or renewed during the last restoration. A very special place is the viewing platform directly above the little church.

The “historical circular route” in the town center is unique, leading to 25 historical buildings of the former monastery complex and explaining them on modern boards on the buildings; the start is at the church forecourt.

The bat forest playground (0–99 years) with fitness equipment for adults and an educational trail to the Rinchnach patent animal, the bat, an insect hotel, large glass bats and a meadow with orchards is unique. The forest property on the outskirts of Rinchnach can be reached via the street "Am Klosterfeld" past the building yard.
