history

Until the church is planted

Drachselsried goes back to a wave of colonization carried out by the Counts of Bogen and is first mentioned in 1184. A noble seat established itself here in the 14th century. It was first referred to as Dorf und Hofmark around 1550 .

Drachselsried belonged to the Straubing Rent Office and the Viechtach Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria . In 1770 the Poschinger family acquired the noble seat. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

19th and 20th centuries

When it was first recorded in 1840, Drachselsried was clearly divided into two parts, the village (Drachselsried I) and the castle property (Drachselsried II) with the castle brewery. However, this separation gradually blurred, especially with construction activity after World War II.

At the beginning of the 1970s there were plans to turn Drachselsried into a tourist center. In addition to the 1,400 beds already available, another 4,500 beds were to be made available as part of a major project, but a spatial planning procedure prevented implementation. Because of the low sewage capacity, only 500 new beds were ultimately approved, which means that the place essentially retained its traditional appearance.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Drachselsried
Blazon : "Under a blue shield head, crossed therein a golden abbot's staff and a silver key, in gold a red-clad, black-bearded man's torso with a three-pronged red cap."

History: Abbot's staff and key crossed in the shield head take on the coat of arms of the Benedictine Abbey Oberalteich, which can be traced back to Drachselsried as the oldest manor from the 12th to the 14th century. The so-called heather body with cap, which was originally a stylized royal bust, was one of the two coats of arms of the imperial barons of Degenberg, who died out in 1602; the other picture was a red linden branch (cf. Frauenau). The rulership of the village in Drachselsried probably came to the Degenbergs around 1400 with the inheritance of the Tuschl von Söldenau, who incorporated the Drachselsried into their Altnussberg estate. It was not until the 16th century that Drachselsried was run as an independent Hofmark and in 1551 it was donated to Balthasar Kürmreutter from Degenberg.
