The Heugstatt is a 1262 m above sea level. NHN high, quiet mountain in the northern Bavarian Forest , a good five kilometers west-northwest of the Großer Arber .
Geographical location
The summit of Heugstatt lies on the boundary of the municipality of Drachselsried in the Lower Bavarian district of Regen, southwest of the mountain . Its summit plateau forms a meadow that was used as an alpine pasture for young cattle until the 1950s . Today the European long-distance hiking trail E6 and Goldsteig leads from the Großer Arber to the Kaitersberg and Eck over the Heugstatt, which also marks the middle of the Arberkamm.
To the west below the summit is the Schareben mountain hut , which is managed all year round with no day off and can be reached by car from Bodenmais or Arnbruck and Drachselsried on partly unpaved roads. This is where the shortest ascent to the Heugstatt begins, although it is rarely climbed as an independent hike. It is more worthwhile to continue to the Kleiner Arber or in the opposite direction to the Schwarzeck , Eck and Kaitersberg.
