Josef Lada (born December 17, 1887 in Hrusice , † December 14, 1957 in Prague ) was a Czech illustrator and children's book author.

Life

The artist with passion illustrated 121 children's books and 197 books for adults and designed covers for 18 children's books and 51 other volumes.

Outside the Czech and Slovak language areas, Josef Lada is primarily known for his illustrations for the novel The Adventures of the Good Soldier Schwejk . Lada gave Jaroslav Hašek's fictional character Schwejk her most famous face. Josef Lada is also known for his stories about the hangover Mikesch and illustrations of numerous children's books and novels.

He is buried in the Olšany Cemetery in Prague.
