Boehmweg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Böhmweg is a path that has linked the Danube and Bohemia for centuries . In addition to the Goldener Steig and the Baierweg , it was an important trade route through the Bavarian Forest . For centuries, the Böhmweg was the shortest route between the Danube and the Bohemian heartland. (50 km as the crow flies from Deggendorf to Schüttenhofen (Sušice)). With the construction of the Ruselbergstrasse , the Böhmweg lost its importance, but is now marked as a hiking trail. Its symbol is a stylized wagon wheel.

The 55 kilometer long Bavarian part of the hiking trail leads from Deggendorf ( 310  m above sea  level ) via Bischofsmais , Weißenstein bei Regen and Zwiesel to Bayerisch Eisenstein ( 720  m above sea level).

Divided into four relatively short daily stages, this path is also suitable for inexperienced hikers. Only the first stage is difficult due to the difference in altitude.

stage route km Elevation meters upwards Downhill meters
1 Deggendorf - Bischofsmais 16 560 200

3 Weißenstein - Zwiesel 12 80 270

In addition to the landscape itself, the pilgrimage church in Greising , the pilgrimage church in Sankt Hermann bei Bischofsmais , the Weißenstein castle ruins , the forest museum in Zwiesel and the Zwieslerwaldhaus are worth seeing along the route .

In some sections of the Böhmweg the original pavement is still preserved, as here above Hermannsried
