Baierweg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baierweg , like the Böhmweg and the Goldene Steig, was a historical trade route between the Danube and Bohemia through the Bavarian Forest . It was laid out in the 11th and 12th centuries by the Counts of Bogen , who acquired properties on the Hohen Bogen during this time and opened up the area. They maintained close dynastic contacts with the Bohemian royal house of the Přemyslids at that time . Even after the dynasty of the counts died out, the route remained an important link between Bavaria and Bohemia.

Today it is a popular long-distance hiking trail of 156 km between Straubing and Furth im Wald and leads in several stages from the Danube over the Bavarian and Bohemian Forests through the Czech Chodenland to Bohemia. It overcomes a total of 725 meters in altitude.
