history

Until the church is planted

Auerbach was first mentioned in 788 and is considered the first daughter of the Benedictine monastery Niederaltaich . The name Auerbach (old name: Urbach) comes from the inconspicuous brook of the same name that rises west of Auerbach and flows through Oberauerbach to the Ohe .

The history of the municipality is clearly shaped by the manorial rule of the neighboring Niederaltaich monastery. As early as the 2nd half of the 8th century, monks from Niederaltaich cleared the "primeval forest", built two farms on the Urpah, the stream where the aurochs graze, and built a chapel. The first settlement called "Cella Urpah" was thus established.

The settlement developed and was in 1148 by Pope Eugene III. confirmed to the monastery, in 1406 the entire parish (including Lalling) was transferred to the monastery.

At the beginning of the 18th century, Abbot Joscio Hamberger had the church of St. Pankratius and St. Margaret built and richly furnished.
