Marlis Petersen
Marlis Petersen (born February 3, 1968 in Sindelfingen ) is a German opera, lied and concert singer with a soprano voice .

Petersen, who grew up in Tuttlingen , studied school music and singing with Sylvia Geszty at the Stuttgart University of Music , which she expanded through jazz and tap dance training at the New York City Dance School in Stuttgart .
In 1994 the soprano started her first engagement at the Städtische Bühnen Nürnberg , where she sang roles such as Ännchen ( Der Freischütz ), Blondchen ( Die Entführung aus dem Serail ), Oscar ( A Masked Ball ), Adele ( Die Fledermaus ), Zerbinetta ( Ariadne auf Naxos ) and Queen of the Night ( The Magic Flute ).
From 1998 to 2003 Marlis Petersen was a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf / Duisburg. There she sang u. a. Norina ( Don Pasquale ) , Morgana ( Alcina ), Marie ( The Regiment's Daughter ), but also Susanna ( The Marriage of Figaro ), Sophie ( The Rosenkavalier ), Füchslein Cleverhead ( The clever little fox ) and Viola (What you want).
In 2002 she made her debut at the Vienna State Opera as Lulu von Alban Berg . In this role she also performed at the Hamburg State Opera (2003), the Lyric Opera in Chicago (2008), the Metropolitan Opera in New York City (2010), the Megaron Athens and the Bavarian State Opera . In the summer of 2006 she made her first guest appearance at the Salzburg Festival with Mozart's Il re pastore , followed by Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro) in 2008. She also sang this role at the Los Angeles Opera under the direction of Plácido Domingo (2010) .
She sang the main role in Manfred Trojahn's world premiere of La grande magia at the Semperoper in Dresden and appeared in Hans Werner Henze's Phaedra at the Berlin State Opera and most recently in Aribert Reimann's Medea at the Vienna State Opera. For the interpretation of this role she was named "Singer of the Year" for the second time in 2010 by Opernwelt magazine (for the first time in 2004 for her Lulu with Konwitschny / Metzmacher ). In 2012 she was mainly on tour as a song singer. In 2015 she was voted “Singer of the Year” for the third time for Lulu in a production by Dmitri Tcherniakovs at the Bavarian State Opera. In 2016 she made her debut in the role of Manon Lescaut at the Vienna State Opera.
Petersen maintains a close relationship with the Theater an der Wien , where she appeared in the following productions: 2012 as Stella (etc.) in Les Contes d'Hoffmann (ML: Riccardo Frizza , Director: Roland Geyer ), 2013 as Elettra in Idomeneo ( ML: René Jacobs , Director: Damiano Michieletto ), 2014 as Violetta in La traviata (ML: Sian Edwards , Director: Peter Konwitschny ), 2015 as Alaide in La straniera (Director: Christof Loy ), 2016 as Gertrud in Hamlet (ML: Michael Boder , director: Christof Loy).
Marlis Petersen lives in Athens .
Awards
- 2013: Austrian Music Theater Prize - Golden Schikaneder in the category of best female leading role for her role in Les Contes d'Hoffmann at the Theater an der Wien.
