Damiano Michieletto (born November 17, 1975 in Venice ) is an Italian theater and opera director .

Michieletto studied directing at the Scuola d'Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi in Milan and literature at the Università Ca 'Foscari in Venice. His breakthrough came in 2003 at the Wexford Festival with Schwanda, the bagpiper . Since then he has been a busy director across Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Japan and China. He is considered a Rossini specialist and, in addition to the Barbiere di Siviglia, has also staged La gazza ladra , La scala di seta and L'italiana in Algeri . At the Teatro La Fenice in his hometown he staged - alongside Roméo et Juliette - Mozart's three Da Ponte operas (conductor: Antonello Manacorda ). But Michieletto has also dealt with works outside the usual repertoire - by Ramón Carnicer , Michael Daugherty , Nino Rota , Stefano Pavesi and Marco Tutino . In 2012 he made his successful debut at the Salzburg Festival and at the Theater an der Wien .

Michieletto has been working with the set designer Paolo Fantin , the costume designer Carla Teti and the lighting designer Alessandro Carletti for several years .
