Don Ramon Carnicer (born October 24, 1789 in Tàrrega , Lleida province , Catalonia , † March 17, 1855 in Madrid ) was a Spanish composer of operas .

Carnicer received his training in Barcelona and in La Seu d'Urgell . In 1818 he became the first conductor at the Barcelona Opera . Due to his resistance to King Ferdinand VII , he was in exile in 1828, where he composed the current tune of the national anthem of Chile . In the same year he was called to Madrid , where he became conductor at the Royal Opera. In 1840 he took over a professorship in composition at the University of Madrid.

Carnicer tried to create a national opera for Spain based on the Italian model. Most of his works were very successful. In addition to the larger - also church - works, Carnicer composed melodies that have become classic for many Spanish folk songs .
