Antonello Manacorda

Antonello Manacorda (* 1970 in Turin ) is an Italian violinist and conductor .

Life

Antonello Manacorda studied violin with Sergio Lamberto at the conservatory in his hometown and graduated with honors. Thanks to a long-term scholarship from the DeSono Association for Music, he studied with Herman Krebbers in Amsterdam , Eduard Schmieder and Franco Gulli . In 1994 Claudio Abbado appointed him concertmaster of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra . In 1997 he founded the Mahler Chamber Orchestra together with colleagues and Abbado , of which he is concertmaster and vice-president. With the MCO he has been involved in numerous tours in Europe, North America and the Far East as well as in the most renowned festivals in the world, among others under the direction of Abbados and by Pierre Boulez , Bernard Haitink , Marc Minkowski , Trevor Pinnock , Christopher Hogwood and Daniel Harding .

He gained great recognition in 2001 with the production of La Clemenza di Tito in the opera houses of the Lombardy region , but then decided to continue his career as a conductor and studied with Jorma Panula .

As a conductor, he received international engagements due to his collaboration with the Pärnu City Orchestra in Estonia , the Bamberg New Chamber Orchestra (whose artistic direction he took over) and the Orchestra of Padua and Veneto . In 2003 Manacorda became artistic director of chamber music at the Académie Européenne de Musique des Festival d'Aix-en-Provence . In 2005 he made his debut with Helsingborgs symfoniorkester and later with the Gävle Symfoni Orkester and is then invited by the orchestra to musical soirees in Milan . He assisted Marc Minkowski in a new production of Les Contes d'Hoffmann at the Opéra National de Lyon and Claudio Abbado in preparation for an Easter tour of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. In 2006 he headed the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan the Barber of Seville by Giovanni Paisiello . After playing at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, he moved to the Kammerakademie Potsdam in 2010 , and since 2011 he has also been chief conductor of Het Gelders Orkest in Arnhem .

In 2011, together with Damiano Michieletto , he began the project to bring out Mozart's Da Ponte trilogy at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. In February 2016, Manacorda took over the musical direction of Gioacchino Rossini's Otello (director: Damiano Michieletto) at the Theater an der Wien , and at the Glyndebourne Festival in July 2016 he directed the new production of Hector Berlioz ' Béatrice et Bénédict (director: Laurent Pelly ).
