The Kammerakademie Potsdam (KAP) is a chamber orchestra founded in 2001 and based in Potsdam . Since 2010 she has been under the direction of chief conductor Antonello Manacorda. history

Established in 2001 through the merger of the Ensemble Oriol Berlin with the Persius Ensemble from Potsdam, the Kammerakademie Potsdam was able to build on the experience of the Ensemble Oriol Berlin as a string orchestra without a conductor and on an extensive repertoire from the baroque to the modern that the ensemble has built since its inception in 1987. Julia Fischer , Sol Gabetta, Albrecht Mayer, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Daniel Müller-Schott , Christian Tetzlaff , Daniel Hope, Emmanuel Pahud, Baiba Skride, Christine Schäfer, Christiane Oelze, Thomas Zehetmair, Tabea Zimmermann, Steven Isserlis, Kolja Blacher, Gábor Boldoczki and Reinhold Friedrich are won. As an ensemble on original instruments, the Chamber Academy has made a name for itself under Sergio Azzolini, Konrad Junghänel, Bernhard Forck and Erich Höbarth. The Kammerakademie Potsdam was awarded the ECHO Klassik for the recording of Franz Schubert's 2nd Symphony in B flat major D 125 and the 4th Symphony in C minor D 417 as “Ensemble / Orchestra of the Year 2015” . In the same year she completed the recording of all of Schubert's symphonies under the direction of chief conductor Antonello Manacorda. The complete recording of all of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's symphonies, which began in December 2015 , was completed with the release of the live recording of Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 2 “Lobgesang” in 2018.

Concerts in Potsdam

The Potsdam Chamber Academy is the guest orchestra of the Nikolaisaal , the state capital's modern concert hall. The Chamber Academy organizes various series of concerts in the Great Hall and the foyer: symphony concerts, chamber concerts, concerts of contemporary music in the KAPmodern series, as well as events for children, young people and families. Potsdam Winter Opera

The Potsdam Chamber Academy and the Hans Otto Theater have been producing the Potsdam Winter Opera together since 2005 and have been able to write a success story with extraordinary productions. During the renovation of the palace theater in the New Palace from 2013, the performances of the Potsdam Winter Opera took place in the Sanssouci Church of Peace. The series of scenic oratorios that began here offered the unique opportunity to develop new musical and dramatic works with biblical themes in a special way.

Educational mandate

Music mediation

The mediation of classical music is a central concern for the musicians of the Kammerakademie Potsdam and is seen as an essential part of the artistic work. The range of offers includes large orchestral concerts, moderated chamber concerts, children's concerts to join in, interdisciplinary workshop offers, special introductions, mobile concert formats and participatory music projects related to the music theater projects organized by the Chamber Academy. Social responsibility

KAPcampus

The KAPcampus orchestral academy selects its first six scholarship holders under the artistic direction of the internationally renowned violinist Antje Weithaas. The KAP was the first orchestra in the state of Brandenburg to set up an academy for young musicians that offers a comprehensive two-year training program. The program includes the practical training of the scholarship holders through participation in rehearsals and concerts of the orchestra as well as instruction in master classes, workshops and their own chamber music projects. KAPcampus is supported by the Chamber Academy and a foundation of the orchestra founder J. Sedemund. It is intended to create the permanent basis for the training and promotion of qualified young musicians. With KAPcampus, the Potsdam Chamber Academy is consistently continuing its successful work with young talent and offers a new enrichment for Potsdam's cultural life.
