Konrad Junghänel

Konrad Junghänel (born February 27, 1953 in Gütersloh ) is a German lutenist and conductor .

Live and act

Konrad Junghänel began his studies at the Cologne University of Music and Dance at the age of 17 . As a 20-year-old he accompanied the countertenor René Jacobs . He also worked with Alfred Deller .

As a soloist and chamber musician, he has given concerts in Europe, Japan, Australia, South America, Africa and the USA. He played together with the ensembles Les Arts Florissants , La Petite Bande and Musica Antiqua Köln .

In 1987 he founded the Cantus Cölln ensemble , with which he recorded more than 30 CDs. He worked several times as a conductor at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music .

Junghänel has been teaching since 1994, succeeding his teacher Michael Schäffer, as professor at the Cologne University of Music. The singer Gerd Grochowski , who was named singer of the year by opera world in 2005 , was one of his students.

In the 2016/2017 season, Junghänel conducted several Mozart operas, The Magic Flute , The Abduction from the Seraglio and Figaro's Wedding at the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden .
