The Musica Antiqua Köln was a renowned baroque orchestra dedicated to historical performance practice .

history

It was founded in 1973 by Reinhard Goebel with musicians from the Cologne University of Music . The ensemble, which comprised six instrumentalists in the core group, focused primarily on the orchestral and ensemble works by Georg Philipp Telemann and the entire Bach family. Members of Musica Antiqua Köln were, for example, Andreas Staier (harpsichord), Anton Steck , Florian Deuter , Manfredo Kraemer (violin), Verena Fischer , Wilbert Hazelzet (transverse flute), Jaap ter Linden (cello), Jonathan Cable (double bass, violone and gamba) , Léon Berben (harpsichord), Adrian Rovatkay (bassoon) and Susanne Regel (oboe).

In November 2006 the ensemble disbanded. Reinhard Goebel had ended his activity as a violinist due to a disease of the left hand and now dedicates himself exclusively to conducting.
