Cantus Cölln is a German vocal ensemble founded in 1987, directed by Konrad Junghänel , which focuses on German and Italian music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods .

The Cologne-based ensemble consists of five soloists and, depending on the performance, is supplemented by other members; this includes, among others, Mechthild Bach and Ulrike Hofbauer . Some performances take place together with the Concerto Palatino wind ensemble .

Publications and concerts

Cantus Cölln's repertoire ranges from Orlando di Lasso to popular composers of the late baroque era. Some of Cantus Cölln's publications consider works that have not received much attention, such as cantatas by Nicolaus Bruhns or festival music by Giovanni Rovetta .

Since its inception, Cantus Cölln has released more than 30 CDs, initially on the Deutsche Harmonia Mundi music label and, since 1996, on the French Harmonia Mundi label. Cantus Cölln goes on concert tours all over Europe and accepts invitations to America, Asia, Africa and Australia.

Awards

The ensemble was awarded the “Buxtehude Prize” by the city of Lübeck in 2000 for its achievements in the field of church music. A large part of Cantus Cölln's productions received record awards and the highest awards from French, German and English-language music magazines.
