Ulrike Hofbauer (* in Altötting ) is a German singer ( soprano ).

biography

Ulrike Hofbauer studied singing and singing education at the University of Music Würzburg , the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . Her main teachers include Sabine Schütz, Evelyn Tubb and Anthony Rooley .

Hofbauer has played as a soloist with ensembles such as Singer Pur , Collegium Vocale Gent , L'Arpeggiata , La Chapelle Rhénane , L'Orfeo Barockorchester and Cantus Cölln . She has worked with, among others, Hans-Christoph Rademann , Christina Pluhar , Andrea Marcon , Gustav Leonhardt , Konrad Junghänel , Philippe Herreweghe , Michi Gaigg , Manfred Cordes and Jörg-Andreas Bötticher . Since 2008 she has been involved in performances and recordings by the J. S. Bach Foundation under the direction of Rudolf Lutz .

She sang at the Basel Theater and the Bern City Theater , among others . She was heard as Calisto in Francesco Cavalli's opera La Calisto , as Galathea in Georg Friedrich Handel's Acis and Galatea , as Euridike in Georg Philipp Telemann's Orpheus and in all female roles in Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas . In addition to radio recordings and live radio appearances, numerous CD and film productions document her artistic work.

She realizes her own projects with her ensemble savādi (lat .: in a different way ) (Ulrike Hofbauer and Kristīne Jaunalksne, soprano, with Marie Borunisien, Arpa doppia ). In addition to the exploration of forgotten music, commissioned compositions highlight the ensemble's commitment to new music . She realizes large-scale projects with her ensemble & cetera . Hofbauer is also a member of The Modena Consort (soprano, four Renaissance transverse flutes , lute ).

Her educational commitment led Hofbauer to the universities of Bogota (Colombia), Minsk (Belarus), to the Bavarian Theater Academy August Everding in Munich and to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel. From 2009 to 2011 she taught baroque singing at the Mozarteum University in Innsbruck. From October 2014 to June 2019 she taught baroque singing at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. Since the beginning of the academic year 2017/2018, she has also been teaching baroque singing at the Strasbourg Conservatory and at the Académie Supérieure de Musique there . From September 2019 she will be a professor at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

Ulrike Hofbauer's repertoire includes all epochs and styles, music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance music , baroque cantatas , oratorios and operas as well as unconventional musical theater . Her artistic work focuses on musical rhetoric , ornamentation and the “recitar cantando” style.

  • 2003: 1st Prize York Early Music International Young Artists Competition in York (England), with savādi .
  • 2004: 1st prize and audience prize at the Van Wassenaer Concours in The Hague (Netherlands), with savādi .
