Wolf Matthias Friedrich (born June 21, 1957 in Schönheide ) is a German singer ( bass baritone ).

biography

As an opera and concert singer, Friedrich devotes himself particularly to early music . He studied singing with Eva Schubert at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig. In 1980 Wolf Matthias Friedrich was a prizewinner at the International Dvořák Competition in Karlovy Vary . From 1982 to 1986 he was a member of the Opera Studio of the Dresden State Opera . He recorded several works by Johann Sebastian Bach with various conductors and ensembles. In 1989 he was a guest at the Herbstliche Musiktage Bad Urach in a concert performance of the opera Das Nachtlager von Granada in the city hall of Metzingen. In 1999 he appeared at the Schwetzingen Festival ( Armida ) and the Potsdam Music Festival . In 2000 he sang the role of Pluto in the first modern revival of Giovanni Llimi's La divisione del mondo at the Schwetzingen Festival under the musical direction of Thomas Hengelbrock . Opera and concert engagements have taken Friedrich to numerous countries in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia. His discography includes numerous works from early baroque to modern.
