Music Festival Potsdam Sanssouci

The Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival is a festival with music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods in historically informed performance practice with excursions and bridges to other genres such as jazz, pop, electronics, folk music, world music and new music . They take place annually for almost three weeks in June with around 80 events in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens of Potsdam & Berlin as well as in the historical center of Potsdam and its surroundings. Every year one to three opera productions, palace concerts , open-air concerts , a bicycle concert , guided tours and lectures, innovative music-cultural listening and children's projects are performed - most of them are self-produced or specially themed for the festival. At least one new event format is developed every year.

Today's Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival is a successor to the Sanssouci Park Festival, which took place in 1954. They were re-established shortly after the reunification of the two German states and took place for the first time in 1991. The operating company is the Sanssouci Music Festival and Nikolaisaal Potsdam gGmbH, a company of the state capital Potsdam. The recorder player and conductor Dorothee Oberlinger has been the artistic director of the Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival since 2018, and Heike Bohmann took over the management of the gGmbH in the same year. The festival is sponsored by the state capital Potsdam and the state of Brandenburg and organized in cooperation with the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg .

The former managing director and artistic director Andrea Palent was responsible for the concept and its implementation from 1991 to 2018.
