Autumn Music Days Bad Urach

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Herbstlichen Musiktage Bad Urach is an international festival of classical music that has been held annually for around a week in Bad Urach since 1981 from the end of September to the beginning of October . The singer Hermann Prey shaped the first years of the festival as co-founder and artistic director until 1998.

history

When the Musiktage was founded in 1981, three personalities worked together: Hermann Prey , who had already given concerts in Bad Urach in 1977, Fridhardt Pascher, the city's mayor at the time, and Herbert Schenkl, a music-loving citizen and friend of the singer. At the center of the Musiktage, that was Prey's basic idea, should be the singing, the human voice - a main theme that changes every year. The internationally known vocal soloists who have made guest appearances in Bad Urach include Inge Borkh , Sena Jurinac , Katia Ricciarelli , Edith Mathis , Christa Ludwig , Felicity Lott , Teresa Berganza , Helen Donath , Juliane Banse , Carlo Bergonzi , Peter Schreier , Olaf Bär , Thomas Allen , Franz Hawlata , Michael Volle and Matthias Goerne . Tenor Jonas Kaufmann also began his career at the Bad Urach Music Days and returned several times as a guest soloist, most recently in 2009 with Gustav Mahler's Lied von der Erde . The rediscovery of forgotten and rarely performed operas developed into a trademark of the festival. This series includes excavations such as Victor Ernst Nessler's Der Trompeter von Säckingen (1994), Johann Joseph Aberts Ekkehard (1998) with Jonas Kaufmann in the title role and Christian Gerhaher as Rudimann, furthermore Siegfried Wagner's Rainulf and Adelasia (2003), Franz Schubert's Sakontala ( 2006), Giacomo Meyerbeer's Alimelek and Carl Maria von Weber's Abu Hassan (2010).

program

The programs focus on recitals. There are also chamber, orchestral, church, choir, children's concerts and an annual master class. The themes of recent years have included homage to the sea (2007), fairy tale worlds (2013), happiness in all variations (2015) or friendship and love (2017). In 2018 the theme of the Musiktage was sounding feeling .

Venues

The Palm Hall in the Bad Urach residential palace

The festival venues are the municipal festival hall, the St. Amandus collegiate church and the Schlossmühle community center. Some of the music days are outside of the city, for example in the Reutlingen town hall . The formerly most important venue - the Palmensaal in the Bad Urach residential palace - has not been usable since 2013 and needs renovation.

financing

The Herbstliche Musiktage has been a foundation under civil law since 1998 . The festival is funded to a large extent by the state of Baden-Württemberg and the city of Bad Urach , as well as by the district of Reutlingen and a number of sponsors. The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Art counts the Autumn Music Days Bad Urach among the most important festivals in the state.
