target

In concert, teaching and research, the work and person of Johann Sebastian Bach in particular should be considered, but also his roots and his effect on his posterity. This includes regular commissioned compositions so that Bach's music can also live on in contemporary music.

The foundation's work focuses on the organization of several series of concerts, including the annual Musikfest Stuttgart , which also broadcasts nationwide (until 2008 under the name "European Music Festival Stuttgart"). Furthermore, she is the bearer renowned ensembles ( Gächinger Cantorey -. Former Gächinger Kantorei and Bach-Collegium Stuttgart , JSB Ensemble ) and is dedicated to music education among others by organizing master classes, symposiums and lecture recitals .

history

The International Bach Academy Stuttgart was founded in 1981 by Helmuth Rilling , who served as the academy's director until his resignation in February 2012. Hans-Christoph Rademann has been his successor since June 1, 2013 .

Christian Lorenz succeeded the long-time director Andreas Keller in 2008, before Gernot Rehrl took over this function in 2013. His successor - as managing director - was Katrin Zagrosek in September 2018.

Almost 25% of the foundation's budget (2009: almost 6 million euros) is borne by public funds (City of Stuttgart and State of Baden-Württemberg ) and is otherwise financed by its own income, donations from a support group with over 1,600 members and sponsorship from well-known companies.

The international cooperation extends from the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene (Oregon) to the Bach Academies in South America ( Caracas / Venezuela, Buenos Aires / Argentina), Japan ( Tokyo , Osaka and Sendai ), Eastern Europe ( Budapest , Cluj , Krakow , Krasnoyarsk , Moscow , Prague , Riga , Tallinn ) and Greece ( Athens ) up to a long-term cooperation with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra .

Recordings

For the Bach Year 2000, the complete recording of all of Bach's works was published as Edition Bachakademie on 172 CDs by Hänssler Verlag under the artistic direction of Helmuth Rilling .
