Eugene [ juːˈdʒiːn ] is a university town in the western part of the US state Oregon with 156,185 inhabitants (according to the last census in 2010 , estimate 2016: approx. 167,000). After Portland , Eugene is the second largest city in the state. The Eugene metropolitan area has a population of around 370,000 (2016 estimate, US Census Bureau). Eugene is directly adjacent to Springfield and is in Lane County . Eugene is located in the Willamette Valley at the mouth of McKenzie in the Willamette .

Sports
Eugene hosted the Junior World Championships in 2014 and is designated venue for the 2021 World Championships in Athletics , which especially in the Hayward Field stadium on the campus of the University of Oregon to take place. It will be the first ever World Athletics Championships in the United States.
