James Patrick Dutton (born November 20, 1968 in Eugene , Oregon ) is an American astronaut who returned to Earth on April 20, 2010 from his first space mission STS-131 on board the Space Shuttle Discovery after 15 days in orbit .

Astronaut activity

On December 5, 2008, Dutton was named as a pilot for the STS-131 mission aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery . Then he started on April 5, 2010, together with 6 other astronauts, to the International Space Station (ISS) . He spent a total of 10 days there, only to leave the station with his colleagues on April 17th. The first attempt for a re-entry was planned for April 19, 2010, but was postponed by 24 hours due to bad weather at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. On April 20, 2010, the Discovery returned to Earth and landed one orbit later than originally planned (due to bad weather in the previous orbit), safely on the Shuttle Landing Facility of the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This ended his first 15-day mission in orbit.

Private

Dutton is married and has four children.
