Kakegawa ( Japanese 掛 川 市 , - shi ) is a city in Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan .
geography
Kakegawa is located southwest of Shizuoka and east of Hamamatsu on the Pacific Ocean .
history
In 1113 Imagawa Ujichika built a castle in Kakegawa, which then passed through different hands. The following daimyo received the castle in the Tokugawa period: 1601 Hisamatsu , 1617 Andō , 1618 Hisamatsu, 1624 Asakura , 1633 Ōyama , 1635 Sakurai , 1639 Honda , 1644 Fujii , 1648 Hōjō , 1659 Ii , 1706 Sakurai, 1711 Ogasawara and finally 1746– 1868 the Ōta with an income of 50,000 koku .
The city of Kakegawa was founded in 1954 with the incorporation of two villages ( 曽 我 村 and 東 山口 村 ) into the municipality of Kakegawa ( 掛 川 町 , ~ chō ). With the incorporation of the communities Daitō ( 大 東 町 , -chō ) and Ōsuka ( 大 須 賀 町 , -chō ) of the district of Ogasa on April 1, 2005 , Kakegawa was re-established as a city and the district was dissolved.
Kakegawa was a post office ( 宿 場 町 Shukuba-machi ) of the Tōkaidō during the Edo period .
Economy and Transport
The main factory, master workshop and development center for pianos of the Yamaha Corporation are located in Kakegawa .
