Fujieda ( Japanese 藤枝 市 , - shi ) is a city in Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan .

Fujieda is located southwest of Shizuoka and northeast of Hamamatsu .
history
Fujieda was a post office ( 宿 場 町Shukuba-machi ) of the Tōkaidō during the Edo period . The district of Tanaka with the Tanaka Castle was an old castle town , in which a branch of the Honda last resided.
The independent city of Fujieda was created on March 31, 1954 from the amalgamation of the district town ( chō ) Fujieda ( 藤枝 町 ) with the district town Aojima ( 青島 町 ) and the villages ( mura ) Hanashi ( 葉 梨 村 ), Inaba ( 稲 葉 村 ), Ōsu ( 大洲 村 ) and Takasu ( 高 洲 村 ) from Shida County .

Fujieda is located on National Road 1 from Tokyo to Kyoto , which partly follows the historic Tōkaidō Street.
The Fujieda station on the Tōkaidō Main Line is of trains of the railway company JR Central operates. From 1913 to 1970 the Sun'en Line , an overland tram, ran to Omaezaki and Fukuroi .
