Izunokuni ( Japanese 伊豆 の 国 市 , - shi , literally: " Country / Province of Izu ") is a city in Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan .

geography

The area of ​​the city of Izunokuni is almost 50% covered by forest. It is located in the north of the Izu Peninsula . The area is traversed by the Kano River.

National road 136 and the Sunzu line run by the Izuhakone Tetsudō railway company run along the Kano, and national road 414 runs along the west coast.

history

The city of Izunokuni was founded on April 1, 2005 by the merger of the communities Ōhito ( 大仁 町 , -chō ), Izunagaoka ( 伊豆 長 岡 町 , -chō ) and Nirayama ( 韮 山 町 , -chō ) of Tagata County.
