Jon Anderson ( Jon Peter Anderson; born October 12, 1949 in Eugene , Oregon ) is a retired American long-distance runner .

In 1972 he qualified over 10,000 m as third in the US eliminations for the Olympic Games in Munich , where he was eliminated despite his personal best in the run-up.

In 1973 he won the Boston Marathon in 2:16:03 h and was fourth in the Fukuoka Marathon in 2:15:53 ​​h.

In 1975 he won the Nike OTC marathon, and in 1977 he came 106th at the World Cross Country Championships in Düsseldorf .

In 1979 he was ninth in the New York City Marathon , in 1980 he won again at the Nike OTC Marathon with his personal best of 2:12:03 h, and in 1981 he came as a guest runner in the Belgian Marathon Championships in 2:17:32 h crossed the finish line first and won the Honolulu Marathon in 2:16:54 h. At the 1982 Houston Marathon , he finished fourth in 2:14:21 hours.

In 1984, the last year of his career, he finished fifth in the Beppu-Ōita Marathon in 2:13:22 h, won the Australian Marathon in 2:13:18 h and was fourth in the pre-Olympic marathon in Seoul .
