Meb Keflezighi wins the 2009 Houston Marathon half marathon

The Houston Marathon (official name Chevron Houston Marathon after the main sponsor, the Chevron Corporation ) is a marathon in Houston ( Texas , which takes place) since 1972 year. The Houston Marathon Committee is the organizer . The first two editions were held in December, and since 1975 the marathon has started in January. Because of this postponement, the 1974 Houston Marathon did not take place.

A half marathon and a 5 km fun run are also offered as part of the event .

route

The flat circuit starts in front of Minute Maid Park in the immediate vicinity of the George R. Brown Convention Center . After an approximately eight-kilometer arc to the north, the route initially leads in a south-westerly direction past Hermann Park and Rice University on to the famous shopping center The Galleria and from there back to the destination at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The temperatures on the day of the event are usually between 7 and 17 ° C.

As part of the event, several US American half marathon and marathon championships were held. The Houston Marathon is also a popular qualifying race for the Boston Marathon among local runners .
