Tumo Turbo

Tumo Turbo (born February 23, 1970 - October 27, 2008 ) was an Ethiopian marathon runner .

In 1993 he finished sixth in the IAAF World Cup marathon held as part of the San Sebastian Marathon . A second place in the Turin Marathon in 1994 was followed the following year by winning the premiere of the Prague Marathon . So he qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg , where he came in 29th place.

In 1996 he won the Houston Marathon and was then nominated for the Atlanta Olympics. There he did not reach the goal; for this he won the Eindhoven Marathon in the fall and came second in the New York City Marathon .

The following year he came second in the Lake Biwa marathon with his personal best of 2:09:00 h. At the World Cup in Athens he first took the lead, but then gave up. In the fall, he finished sixth in the Chuncheon Marathon .

In 1998 he was fifth in the Berlin Marathon , and in 2000 he was sixth in Turin and won in San Sebastián.

Tumo Turbo died in 2008 in a bus accident on the road between Addis Ababa and Awassa .
